Softball Claims Blissfield Tourney Title

The softball team continued its hot play of late by claiming the Blissfield tournament title Saturday.

The Panthers defeated Melvindale 4-3 in the final game of the day to claim the title.

The game was tied 1-1 when Taylor Carey broke the tie with a two-run triple in the fourth for a 3-1 lead. Hannah Lockhart drove had an RBI single in the fifth to make it 4-1.

Melvindale scored a pair in the top of the sixth to make it 4-3, but Emily Breslin struck out the final two batters in the seventh to end the game and give the Panthers the tourney title with a 3-0 record on the day.

Breslin finished with 12 strikeouts and had two hits and an RBI at the plate. Carey had the triple and two RBI and Lockhard the RBI single.

The Panthers cruised to a pair of shutout wins earlier in the day.

They defeated Adrian 12-0 in the opener behind the pitching of Breslin.

Breslin was nearly unhittable as she carried a perfect game into the fifth before a one-out single ended the bid. She finished with four strikeouts and allowing the one hit. She also had three hits and an RBI at the plate.

Katelyn Knieper was 4-4 with an RBI and three runs scored, while Paige Wooden had two hits and four RBI and Carey two hits and an RBI.

Stockbridge then blanked Blissfield 6-0.

Breslin struckout 10 and allowed five hits on the mound for the win. She also smacked a three-run homer to lead the offense.

McKenzie Noble added to hits, Carey a hit and two RBI, and Michelle Zemke a hit and RBI.

The Panthers improved to 11-2 overall on the season.
