SOWING INSPIRATION ~ State Fair Zinnias add a vibrant variety of color
September’s garden inspiration highlights Sue Smith’s zinnias. Her inspiration and love of gardening started in her grandmother’s yard, where she spent time among a spectrum of color and texture. Zinnias, black-eyed Susans and blue fescue are planted near a white fence and brick water feature. What Sue is most proud of is her State Fair Zinnias. Like most of us, she learned by trial and error. For instance, she discovered that zinnias like to be watered from the bottom to avoid blackspots and disease. Deadheading them also encourages continual growth throughout the season until frost. A vibrant variety of color pulls everything together in this shapely garden.
