Stockbridge Athletic Boosters Golf Scramble a driving success

The coveted golf towels await the winning teams.

The 27th  annual Stockbridge Athletic Boosters Golf Scramble, held July 30 at the Hankerd Hill Golf Course in Pleasant Lake, was a huge success. The money raised from the golfers and area business sponsors will be used to help fund the Stockbridge High School athletic programs.

The day started early, with a 7 a.m. registration and breakfast followed by an 8 a.m. shotgun start. While some golfers were guzzling coffee in an effort to wake up, the more energetic headed to the driving range or the putting green to practice.

The excitement was high as the 160 golfers loaded in 80 golf carts headed to their assigned tee box. At several holes, the golfers were greeted by Stockbridge High School athletes.

“Welcome to the Vegas hole. Would you like to double your money?” one student said. The students’ presence was a welcome change from last year’s event, when there were no student workers because of COVID.

“What a perfect day,” said Jeremy Killinger, one of the event organizers. “Beautiful weather and 40 teams of golfers.  It doesn’t get any better than this.”

Killinger credited those who worked behind the scenes at the annual fundraiser.

“It takes a team to pull off a successful event like this and our group of organizers, Steve Allison, Darren Hejnal and Jeff Trapp know how to work together to get things done,” he said.

The 27th Stockbridge Athletic Boosters Golf Scramble now is history, but there is little rest for the organizers. Soon they will begin planning for next year. Golfers, mark your calendars for July 29, 2022, to play in the event.
