Stockbridge girls varsity soccer beats Cheryl Stockwell Academy 6-1

by Bruce Wm. Brown

The Stockbridge girls varsity soccer team marked its third home season win on April 10 with a 6-1 victory over the Stockwell Sentinels. Running against the freezing wind, four Panthers showed hot shooting to find the Sentinels net including Faith Whitt, Brittany Freiermuth, Rachel Frazzini, and Sylvia Whitt.

Megan Catron powered the Panther offense from midfield with three well-placed scoring assists. The Stockbridge defense continued its protection of the goal keeper against the Sentinels.

A solid wall of turns, steals, and clears stifled the Sentinel offense on the strong play of Maria Risner, Payton Killinger, Bailey Heidrich and Paige Brown. Goalkeeper, Betheny Plennert, gathered five saves during the match to hold the Sentinels to a single score.

The win positions the Stockbridge Lady Panthers well with a positive season start of three wins.
