On the weekend of Aug. 10, the Stockbridge Town Hall Players presented their latest production, ‘The Superhero Ultraferno’ at Stockbridge Jr./Sr. High School.
The play, written by Don Zolidis, was an entertaining comedic spoof of the DC and Marvel heroes and villains. In the story, nerds take over the world and want kids to know everything about comic book superheroes.
The director, Larry Torrey has directed numerous plays with the Town Hall Players. His first play for the Stockbridge theater troupe was “Alex in Wonderland,” which he directed with Jeff Boyer in 2007. SInce then he has been an active member of the Town Hall Players, filling the stage with kids and young adults. The actors were allowed to experience the joy and wonder of the theater and its many benefits.
Barbara A. Krusinski, one of the producers of the show, has been involved with the troupe since its early years. She is a woman who wears many hats, also being the Town Hall Players president. The other producer, Marilyn Saad Brumm, said it was her first show as both a producer and an actor.
The Town Hall Players’ next play will be “Harmony Romances,” a romantic comedy by Ron Hill. Auditions were held Aug. 23, 24 and 25 at the Township Hall.
The play is a sequel to “Ladies of Harmony,” a play the theater group presented back in April 2013, and directed by Sara Lewis and Amy Schlaff. This time, the ladies will be planning a wedding instead of a funeral. Leah, a woman attending their church, plans to marry Howard. She has not seen him in years, and only has been in contact by email and telephone.
The Town Hall Players are looking forward to their fall production on Nov. 30, Dec. 1 and Dec. 2 at the Stockbridge Township Hall. Times for the performances have not yet been set.
Anyone interested in theater or acting may want to consider joining the Town Hall Players.
I personally discovered the benefits of theater back in 2005, when Jeff Boyer asked me to be a part of a production called “Up the Down Staircase.”
I played a young, shy high school student and I often shared the same lines that I said in school. It’s safe to say the Town Hall Players and theater changed the direction of my life. A lot of people have said that experience broke me out of my shell.
