Student of the Month: Alexa Satkowiak ‘makes teaching and learning fun’
by Cindy Lance
This month’s “Student Spotlight” shines on Stockbridge Heritage Elementary fourth-grader, Alexa Satkowiak. Teacher Luke Thorburn describes this young lady as “a leader in the classroom. She isn’t afraid to participate during hands-on activities or explaining an answer to a math problem. Alexa goes out of her way to help other students in the class. She has a smile every day that makes teaching and learning fun.”
Alexa is the youngest child of Jason and Colleen Satkowiak, with older brother Dalton and sisters Emily and Melanie. Math is her favorite subject in school, but at the end of third grade, Alexa ranked among the top six in her class, qualifying her to participate in the Heritage’s spelling bee.
In a time when cursive writing isn’t a focus, a memorable moment in school for Alexa came when she wrote her name in that style for the first time. It comes as no surprise that this academically driven student aspires to become a teacher.
In addition to school, Alexa enjoys many hobbies, including dancing, cheerleading, basketball, softball, coloring and reading. A Perfect Time for Pandas (Magic Treehouse Series) and Bad Kitty vs. Uncle Murray top her list of favorite books.
