United Methodist Church Celebrates Fall Fest in Time-honored Tradition

A wide variety of baked goods. Yum!

This past weekend the United Methodist Church celebrated fall with its annual Fall Fest, an occasion that the UMW and its Seeker Circle group have held in some form since the 1970s.

“This event brings people from outside the area, they can find great baked goods and a treasure or two,” UMW President Marge Perkins said.  Perkins stated that the proceeds from the bake sale go to the United Methodist Women’s Organization, which then gives to missions like Community House in Grand Rapids. Proceeds from the rummage sale and table rentals go to the church.

The Fall Fest offered baked goods and rummage sale items donated by church members. It also had vendors from Paparazzi Accessories, Avon, as well as those with garage sale items. The church’s youth program Dream Club manned a table to sell items made by the kids and the pastor.

“I come to support this church and it’s cheaper than therapy,” joked Janice Barnett, Avon Representative, who has been selling at the Fall Fest for 10 to 15 years.

The UMW also holds a quilt show and bake sale during Day in The Village, on Father’s Day weekend. This event brings together a church and celebrates fall as a time-honored tradition in the community of Stockbridge.
