Attorney Timothy H. Howlett, son of Mayrene and Richard Howlett, received the 2018 Distinguished Service Award during the State Bar of Michigan’s Labor and Employment Law Section Mid-Winter Meeting on Feb. 9.

“When I looked at the list of past recipients and their accomplishments,” Howlett said, “I was humbled to receive the award.”

The Distinguished Service Award is awarded to an individual lawyer who has made major contributions to the practice of labor and employment law, reflects the highest ethical principles, has advanced the development of labor and employment law, has a long-established commitment to excellence, and is recognized and respected by all constituents in the labor and employment community.

The 1966 graduate of Stockbridge Community Schools recalled special memories of playing football and basketball with his teammates. “I am also grateful for all the people who contributed to my development as a person and a lawyer starting with home and growing up in Stockbridge,” Howlett said. “Much of my law practice is adversarial, and growing up in Stockbridge, I learned to get along with people, which has helped me throughout my career.”

Attorney Howlett is a member in Dickinson Wright’s Detroit office and is the firm’s labor and employment practice leader. He focuses his practice on labor and employment counseling and labor and employment litigation.
