Volunteers gather to spruce up Oaklawn Cemetery for Memorial Day
by Tina Cole-Mullins
A small procession of cars could be seen entering Oaklawn Cemetery on Saturday, May 11. Fortunately, this was not a funeral procession but rather a flow of energetic community volunteers gathered to clean up the cemetery grounds in preparation for upcoming Memorial Day events.
Gray skies and occasional raindrops did not deter volunteers who joined Clayton Croy of the Stockbridge Village Department of Public Works. Village, township and DDA members worked alongside community volunteers who were invited and encouraged by the Facebook group Wake Up Stockbridge & Surrounding Communities. The group hopes this will become an annual event.
