Lady Panthers Clinch Third Straight GLAC Title
The Stockbridge girls’ basketball team closed its regular season with five straight wins to stake claim to its third straight GLAC title with an 11-1 conference record.
After falling to Leslie 49-40 to fall out of a first-place tie, the Panthers reeled off five straight wins to tie the Blackhawks for the league title with an 11-1 conference record.
It came down to the final night when the Panthers traveled to Olivet. They needed a win to tie the Blackhawks for the title.
The Panthers came out like the title was on the line. Gwen Rogozinksi nailed third triples in the opening quarter and the Panthers defense pitched a shutout as Stockbridge jumped out to an 11-0 lead after one quarter.
Olivet came to life in the second, but the Panthers maintained a 24-14 lead at the half, with Taylor Lockhart scoring five second-quarter points.
The lead grew to 15 early in the third and the Panthers appeared to be cruising, but the Eagles hit three triples and cut the Stockbridge lead to 33-28 after three.
Olivet would hit three more triples in the final quarter, but Alaina Kellenberger hit two big baskets and Rogozinski went 4-4 from the line down the stretch as the Panthers held on for the win and the share to the GLAC crown.
Rogozinski scored a team-high 21 points, while Brooklyn Rochow added 10.
Lockhart finished with seven points, Kellenberger six, Gracee Robidou and Paige Stolarz two each.
Olivet
The Panthers knocked off a tough Olivet squad 52-41.
Gwen Rogozinski led the Panthers with 20 points, five assists, and four steals. Brooklyn Rochow added 15 points and nine rebounds, while Rylee Tolson had seven points and four boards. Gracee Robidou chipped in with six points, Alaina Kellenberger two points and nine rebounds, and Taylor Lockhart two points.
Lakewood
The Panthers took down Lakewood 65-55.
Rogozinski led the Panthers with 23 points. Robidou added 12 points and five rebounds and Rochow 11 points and eight rebounds. Kellenberger chipped in with six points and four boards, Tolson seven points and seven rebounds, Lockhart three points, and Makayla Surline two points.
Leslie
The Panthers handed Leslie its first league loss of the season 53-35.
Kellenberger had a huge night with 12 points and 17 rebounds. Rochow scored a team-high 19 points, while Rogozinski added 15. Robidou added five points and Lockhart two.
Perry
The Panthers rolled to a 55-26 win after taking a 24-3 lead after one quarter.
Kellenberger had 16 points and six rebounds to lead Stockbridge. Robidou chipped in with 12 points, and five assists, while Rogozinski added 11 points and six steals. Tolson finished with five points, Surline three, Shailynn Romero, Lockhart, and Rochow two each.
The Panthers improved to 15-5 overall on the season. The host the D2 district this week. They open against Williamston Monday night at 7:00 PM.
