Stockbridge Community Raises Money for Two Local Students with Cancer
The Stockbridge community came out in droves to help the families of two Stockbridge students who have been diagnosed with a rare form of cancer.
The boys, DJ and Landen were both recently diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer Osteosarcoma.
Osteosarcoma is a kind of cancer that begins in the cells that form bones. Osteosarcoma tends to happen most often in teenagers and young adults. But it also can happen in younger children and older adults.
There are only around 500 cases of the rare disease in the United States.
The outpouring of support in the Stockbridge area for the two students and their families has been huge.
Justin Rickel Sr. and SHS students Eliana Johnson and Elliya Vogel spearheaded the Yellow Out events for the high school. They even got local television stations involved in the event.
Stockbridge Jr/Sr High School hosted boys’ and girls’ basketball teams hosted “Yellow Out” games with shirts and wristbands being sold that said #DJStong and #LandenStrong as well as Silent Auctions and other fundraisers.
The Springport basketball team wore yellow warmups before the varsity boys’ game in honor of the cause and Webberville High School had a “Yellow Out” basketball game when the Panthers played there February 5.
The fundraising for the cause has raised over $10,000 dollars for the boys’ families with the numbers still growing with other fund raisers going in the area.
Once again, the Stockbridge Community has proven that “No One Fights Alone”.
