The week of November 13 scored big for the SHS Girls Varsity Volleyball as the team was named Academic All State. And that’s not all. Three of its varsity-lettered seniors were also named to Individual Academic All-State: Madie Gee-Montgomery (#7), Shelby Hall (#5), and Kaylee Samulak (#1).

To qualify for All-State awards, a team must also be enrolled and participating in interscholastic athletics at a Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) member school. The team must maintain an overall 3.30 grade point average or higher. Individual All-State awards are bestowed only to varsity-lettered seniors who have achieved a G.P.A of 3.50 or greater throughout their high school careers.

“Our team has a 3.50 G.P.A.” Meghan Kunzelman announced with a smile, “and Meghan, Shelby and Kaylee achieved better than a G.P.A. of 3.7.” In fact, Madie Gee-Montgomery is sporting a 3.8 G.P.A., and Kaylee Samulak, a 4.0.
