Baseball Drops Pair to Lakewood

The Stockbridge baseball teams bats were silenced by Lakewood pitching in a doubleheader sweep by the Vikings Friday.

The Panthers could muster just four hits in the two games combined, dropping both games to Lakewood 3-1 and 1-0 in eight innings.

Lakewood took a 3-0 lead in the opener as the Panthers bats were quiet. Stockbridge put two runners on in the third with an error and walk, but could not get them in.

The Vikings scored a single run in the fourth and two in the sixth.

A hit batter and walk put two runners on in the seventh. A double steal moved them to second and third and Jeremy Pilch scored on an RBI ground out by Cody Freiermuth to make it 3-1, but a pop out ended the game.

Alex Rose struck out 11 and allowed just four hits and one earned run in the hard-luck loss for the Panthers.

The second game was another pitchers duel as neither team could put a runner home. Stockbridge put a pair of runners on in the top of the 7th, but a fly ball to center ended the threat.

With the game scoreless, the Panthers started the eighth inning by loading the bases with nobody out on an error and singles by Drew Davis and Freiermuth. Rose lifted a fly to left, but PJ Loso was gunned out at home for a double play and a fly out ended the inning.

The Panthers got the first two out in the bottom of the eighth, but a hit batter put a runner on. An attempted steal and throwing error moved the runner to third and an infield single scored the game-winning run in a tough 1-0 loss to the Vikings.

Freiermuth had two hits to lead the Panthers. Daniel Ballagh and Davis had the other hits for Stockbridge.

Aidan Trost and Jeremy Pilch combined to allow just four hits in the loss on the mound for Stockbridge. Trost struck out seven and Pilch one.

The Panthers fell to 6-2 in the GLAC tied with Olivet. Lakewood sits at 8-3 in the GLAC.

Stockbridge hosted Dansville in the Second Annual Grant Whitaker Memorial Baseball Game Saturday, April 27,

The Panthers pounded out 13 hits and trounced the Aggies 14-0.

Rose was the winning pitcher with four strikeouts and had three hits and an RBI to lead the offense. Trost, Brody Canfield, and Loso each had two hits and two RBI, while Gage Place had a hit and two RBI. Ballagh and Eddie Koch had a hit and RBI each and Filch a hit for the Panthers.

Stockbridge is 11-6 overall on the season
