Girl marries boy next door, and they live happily ever after!

In June of 1968, Cheryl Holsinger moved from Pennsylvania to Haslett, Michigan, with her family. She met the boy next door—Ivan Wyrick—and the rest is history!

In August 1968, Ivan returned to Michigan after being in the Army. Ivan and Cheryl were married one year later, on September 13, 1969, in the Williamston Free Methodist Church. Their first child, daughter Ameejo, was born in 1972, and soon after that, in 1973, along came their son, Sean. That same year, they had a house built in Bunkerhill Township, where they’ve lived ever since.  Ivan worked for G.M. and Cheryl worked as an R.N. at Foote Allegiance and a Home Health agency. They are proud grandparents of five grandchildren—Ameejo has two children and Sean and his wife, Wendy, have three.

The advice Cheryl and Ivan have for marriage longevity is to love one another, no matter the obstacles; be very supportive to each other; and always forgive.  During the last year they have supported each other through a cancer diagnosis (with positive outcomes thus far), and the experience has drawn them even closer together.  According to the Wyricks, “We thank God for his faithfulness to us.”

This special anniversary story will be included in our Hearts and FlowersLove is in the Air feature celebrating couples who have been married 50 years or more. Watch for this feature in the February print edition of the Stockbridge Community News.
