Girls’ Track Second at Marshall, Boys set several PR’s

The Stockbridge track teams competed at the Marshall Sports Festival Friday and the girls came home with a strong second place finish, while the boys struggled but still came away with several PR’s.

The race featured several Division 2 teams as the Panthers were one of the smallest schools at the event.

The girls finished with 73 points, beating out GLAC rival Leslie with 71. Hillsdale won the meet with 104.5.

Rylee Tolson led the Panthers with a pair of wins in the 800 and 3200 races. She was also fourth in the 400. Tolson also teamed with Kristin Wilde, Kaitelyn Walker, and Sidney Gipe to finish second in the 4×800 relay.

Walker finished third in the 100 hurdles with a PR, while Carissa Heinzman was third in the discus and Julianne Muscato was third in the long jump. The 4×200 relay team of Gabrielle Heath, McKenzie Hatfield, Audrey Austin, and Muscato also finished third, while Wilde was fourth in the 800.

The boys had a tough go in the meet finishing with just three points and in 8th place.

Micah Bolton led the Panthers with sixth place finishes in the 1600 and 3200.

Several PR’s were set by the boys team.

PR’s went to Luke Suojanen, Hayden Ellsworth, and Ethan Luke in the 100; Isaac Lance and Luke 200; Cameron Brewer 400, Ethan Wright and Andy Schlaff 800; Bolton and Wright 1600; Schlaff 3200; Jonah Huskey-Wright and Remi Samek long jump.

The girls PR’s were set by Heath and Hannah Breslin 100; Breslin and Grace Niec 200; Muscato and Alora Mullins 400; Wilde 800; Gipe 1600; Mullins 3200; Muscato and Breslin long jump.

The Panthers will host GLAC power Olivet and Lansing Christian Tuesday. Olivet has won the GLAC track title every year since the start of the conference.
