How Friends of Library auction benefits community

by Head Librarian Sherri McConnell

As I write this it is National Friends of the Libraries Week. The week may be over now as you read this, but that’s not stopping me from writing about all the great things that the Friends of the Stockbridge Library do for us and the community.

They’ve funded so many things in the past few years. Prizes for the annual Summer Reading Challenge that helped encourage kids to read during summer break; live music for the Open Air Market; prizes for the “This I Believe” essay contest for high school students; a summer craft program in Veterans Park; seeds for our spring seed library; a beautiful book display unit; and the jazzy holiday open house that will return in 2022.

How do they fund all these great activities? With the Silent Auction that returns this month and the ongoing “Recycled Reads” book sale at the Stockbridge branch. From Nov. 12-14 Friends members are accepting donations for the Silent Auction such as original artwork, homemade craft items, themed gift baskets, gift cards, event tickets or services from local businesses. The Auction takes place Nov. 15-30.

All of this is happening at the Stockbridge branch during our open hours. If you have any questions, you can email me at [email protected] or call. We’re always happy to help a friend!
