Inclement Weather and School Closing Decisions

from the desk of Superintendent Karl Heidrich

As the winter season approaches it sometimes becomes necessary to delay or close school for the day because of poor weather conditions. Student safety is our priority and the district will make every effort to delay or close school by 5:45 a.m.

Our team checks road conditions as early as the evening before an approaching inclement weather system. We also begin road checks as early as 4:30 a.m. before school begins. It is routine for our team to drive multiple areas of the school district and consider a variety of road and weather-related conditions before reaching a decision to delay or close school.

Parents and students may find closing or delay information from the following resources the Parent All Call Email/Phone notification system, TV Announcements (WILX Channel 10, WLNS Channel 6, and Fox 47), the district Website and Social Media.

It is important not to rely solely on the Parent All Call system for the announcement of a delay or cancellation. If the Parent All Call system experiences technical difficulties for the day, it may be necessary to seek out another source of information such as TV announcements.
