Kael Bunce Competing in Wrestling State Finals Friday

Stockbridge’s Kael Bunce is hoping to improve on last year’s eighth place All State finish when he competes in the MHSAA D3 State Finals this weekend at Ford Field in Detroit.

Bunce will take a 30-1 record into the finals and will be one of four number one seeds at 145 in Division 3.

He will take on 4th seed Kyan Fessendan (32-11) of Kingsley in the opening round Friday afternoon. A win in the opener and he would face the winner of Josh Hetrick (36-6) of Dearborn Heights Annapolis and Konner Roche (35-10) of Frankenmuth in the quarterfinals.

Other number one seeds in the tournament are Tyler Swiderski (43-3) of Dundee, Michael Pizzo (39-2) Clawson, and Colt Smedley (20-1) of Clare who is on the same side of the bracket as Bunce.

Bunce enters the tournament ranked third at 145 pounds by michigangrappler.com. Hetrick, a possible second round opponent is ranked 2nd, while Swiderski of Dundee is the number one raked wrestler.

Wrestling starts at 11:30 Friday and will go all afternoon until the semifinals at 7:30 PM Friday night. Wrestling will continue Saturday with the consolation rounds starting at 9:00 AM with the championship matches starting at 3:30 PM.
