Lady Panthers Roll In Season Opener

If the opening quarter of the Stockbridge girls’ basketball team season opener against Webberville is a sign of things to come, then the Panthers 2019/20 season will be a great one.

The Panthers scored the first 24 points of the game and jumped out to a commanding 29-2 lead after one quarter and never looked back against the Spartans as they cruised to a 66-10 win Tuesday night.

The defense was swarming, intercepting numerous passes that led to easy fast break baskets in the quarter.

Madison Mazuca lays in two of her points in the first quarter against Webberville.

The second quarter was more of the same as the Panthers outscored Webberville 20-0 for a 49-2 halftime lead. At one point the Panthers slowed up and chose not to take the easy lay-ups and ran their half court offense.

Webberville was able to hit a couple of shots in the third as they scored six points, but the running clock and the Panther offense kept the big lead as Stockbridge led 59-8 after three quarters.

The Panthers have just seven players on their roster and all seven found the scorebook and saw lots of playing time on the blowout win.

Gwen Rogozinski led the Panthers with 14 points, including seven in the first quarter.

Mazuca and Grace Hall finished with 12 points each as the Panthers had three players score in double figures.

Chelsey Asquith and Kaylee Dalton scored nine points each, Brooklyn Rochow eight and Rylee Tolson two.

The Panthers return to action Friday, December 13 when they travel to Chelsea  at 5:30 in a doubleheader with the boys game following at 7:00 PM.
