Lady Panthers Rout Maple Valley, GLAC Showdown With Leslie Friday

The Stockbridge girls’ basketball team set themselves up for a battle for the top spot in the GLAC this week by routing Maple Valley 51-35 in from of a large Coming Home crowd Friday night.

The win improved the Panthers to 6-1 in the GLAC and they now face co-leader Leslie in a battle between the two top teams in the conference Friday night.

The Panthers defeated the Blackhawks 36-32 January 17 and Friday nights game will move the winner in to the drivers seat in the GLAC.

Stockbridge could not shake Maple Valley Friday night as the Lions played tough and stayed within striking  distance for most of the night.

Gwen Rogozinski score nine first quarter points to help the Panthers take a 14-7 lead after one.

She would add seven more points in the second, but Maple Valley’s Ashlyn Wilkes kept the Lions close with 13 first half points as the Panthers led 29-21 at the break.

The Panthers lead would grow the 13 in the third behind six points by Grace Hall, but every time the Panthers looked like they would run away, the Lions would battle back to keep it within 11 to 13 points with Stockbridge leading 40-29 after three.

Stockbridge were never threatened in the fourth, keeping a safe lead and holding on for the 51-35 win.

Rogozinski led Stockbridge with a team high 18 points.

Hall added 10 points and Chelsey Asquith nine. Kaylee Dalton finished with seven points, Madison Mazuca four, and Brooklyn Rochow three.

The Panthers improved to 11-3 overall.
