Obituary: Carl Manoogian
Carl Manoogian, age 96, of Gregory, Michigan, passed away on May 21st, 2023 in his beloved home on Williamsville Lake.
Carl was born on January 13th, 1927, to Hagop and Sophia Manoogian in Detroit, MI. When Carl was 18, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in WWII as a war medic in Stuttgart, Germany from 1945-1946 at the 250tht Field Hospital. After arriving back to the states, Carl met his wife of 73 years, Dorothy (Shaltz) Manoogian.
Carl and Dorothy went on to build a family; Carolyn Clardy, Carl (Judy) Manoogian, Michael (Debbie) Manoogian and Sharon Gonzalez. They resided briefly in Detroit before moving to Dearborn Heights, MI. Carl was an incredibly hard worker and supported his family over the years as a machinist.
Carl was an amazing grandfather to 11 grandchildren: Aaron (Peter) Owen, Christina Spence, Emily (Mark) Manoogian, Joshua Rogers, Mike (Jill) Manoogian, Stephanie Manoogian, Nick Manoogian, Kelsey Manoogian, Jacob Hamblin, Brett Manoogian and Sam Gonzalez. He was also a great-grandfather to Hannah and Ryan Spence, Luke and Lauren Manoogian, and Griffin and Quinn Chrzanowski.
In addition to his family, Carl was loved by many neighbors and friends.
Carl’s favorite pastimes included dancing, gardening, fishing, taking boat rides, walking by the lake, frying eggplant and spending time with family and friends. He was a veteran and proud member of American Legion Post 510 in Stockbridge, MI. Carl supported his many grandchildren by taking them tubing, teaching them to swim and fish, and attending their sporting events.
Carl is preceded in death by his parents, Hagop and Sophia; siblings, Rose, Harry, Dick, and Mary; and daughter-in-law, Kim.
Under the care of Simon Javizian Funeral Directors, the visitation will take place on May 30. 2023, Tuesday, from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM , with a Funeral Service at 7:00 PM in Phillips Funeral Home, 122 Lake Street, South Lyon, MI 48178. Interment in Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, MI will follow on Wednesday at 2:30 PM, with US Army Military Honors.
