Obituary: Donald James Johnston

Donald James Johnston, of Gregory, Michigan passed away at home at the age of 83 on Friday, August 2, 2019. He was born November 5, 1935 to Clarence and Carol Johnston in Garden City, MI. Don moved to Gregory as a child. On May 9, 1959, he married Sandra (Gregory) Johnston, and she survives. He loved antique tractors, boating, fishing, and U of M Football where he was an usher for 40+ years. He was also an avid Stockbridge Panthers fan.  Don was an active member of the community, volunteering with the Gregory Area Jaycees years ago and more recently the Stockbridge Lions Club.

In addition to his wife, Sandy, he is survived by his children Diane (Kim) Kalmbach, Laurie (Abdul) Al-Mansoor, James (Christi) Johnston, and Megan (Anthony) Urie; grandchildren Alex, Jordan, Sara, Sami, Nikki, Katy, Evelyn, Mikayla, James, Caleb, and Zachary; his brothers Everett, John, and  David, and sister, Mary.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Kathy, son, Joshua, brothers Bob, Murlin, Dick, and Dennis; sister, Kathryn; grandchildren Lillian, Landon and Steven.

The family will receive friends at Caskey Mitchell Funeral Home on Wednesday,  August 7, 2019 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. The funeral will take place on Thursday, August 8, 2019, 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Plainfield Cemetery.  Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Stockbridge Lions Club.
