Repaving begins in downtown Stockbridge

Months of planning and preparation moved into execution mode yesterday, May 6, as an asphalt grinder, 20-yard dump trailer, skid loader and workers arrived on the scene in downtown Stockbridge. When completed, the parking lot between Rob’s Pizza and Eaton bank will sport a new asphalt surface, as will portions of Veterans’ Park, including the basketball court, handicap accessible trail, park entrance and upper and lower parking lots.
The Stockbridge Downtown Development Authority is sponsoring the repaving project, under development since September 2018. C.G. Lantis, DDA President, said the authority received three or four bids and accepted the middle bid from American Asphalt, totaling approximately $230,000.
“Seeing their work at the high school and interacting with them throughout their work at SAESA, I felt very comfortable with them,” he said of American Asphalt.
Drainage, thickness, surface preparation and other engineering details all had to be addressed prior to implementation, Lantis said. “We worked with engineer Dan Cabbage, with an engineering firm that has done work for the Village and DDA in the past,” he said.
Lantis expects work to finalize in two to four weeks, depending on weather. “For sure, all will be completed before ‘A Day in the Village,’” he said. The 25th annual “A Day in the Village” will be held over Father’s Day weekend, June 14 through 16.
