Shuyler Clark, columnist and author, joins the SCN Board
by Mary Jo David
Members of the Board of the Stockbridge Community News are pleased to announce that Shuyler Clark has accepted an invitation to join the board. A Stockbridge resident since birth, Clark graduated from Stockbridge High School and went on to earn an associate degree in creative writing from Lansing Community College.
Clark is an experienced columnist and reporter for the paper. She is the face behind the Reading Between the Lines column, which has published monthly since October 2021. Through her column, she has introduced SCN readers to a spectrum of genres spanning children’s books, young adult fantasy fiction, adult romance fiction, and also nonfiction. Clark also willingly volunteers for other writing assignments as needed for SCN.
As an avid reader and writer, she is certainly well qualified to write about books. Clark has worked for the Stockbridge Library and most recently Book Warehouse.
“I probably have my mom to thank for my love of reading. She read to me and my brother every day when we were children. Also, my competitive side pushed me to read a ton during the March reading challenges when I was in school, so that helped too!” Clark said.
At the Nov. 30, 2022, meeting of the Stockbridge Community News, Board President Joan Tucker officially welcomed Clark to the board.
“It’s clear that Shuyler Clark is an avid reader, and that makes her creative book reviews a delight to read. We are so happy she has accepted the SCN Board appointment. Her generational perspective will be a great addition, giving us all an opportunity to learn and grow from each other,” Tucker said.
When asked what value she hopes to bring to the board, Clark replied, “I hope to help come up with new ideas for stories or columns for the paper and to extend my writing reach even beyond my own column.”
Clark has also written short stories and is hard at work on a novel; she hopes to have the second draft done by the end of March. She also writes short stories. Wondering what her novel is about? Well, that gives readers the perfect excuse to introduce themselves and ask that very question anytime they run into Clark out and about in town.
In the meantime, we’d like to say, “Welcome a-Board” to our newest member, Shuyler Clark!
