Slotkin’s 7th District Congressional Office to close in Lansing on Dec. 11

Information provided by Congresswoman Slotkin’s office

As a reminder, I’ll officially leave the House of Representatives and be sworn in as one of Michigan’s two U.S. senators on January 3. Serving you in Washington has been an honor of a lifetime, and I can’t wait to represent all Michiganders over in the Senate.

As that transition begins, I wanted to share additional information about when my current offices will close down and how it will impact your ability to reach my staff. My team has been planning since early this year to ensure that we can continue to serve the people of Michigan’s 7th District during this transition.

First, we’re working closely with Congressman-elect Tom Barrett and his staff. They will have a constituent services team up and running after the new year.

Under the House’s plan for transition to the new Congress, my Washington, D.C., team must move out of that office on Friday, November 22.

My Lansing office will remain open through Wednesday, Dec. 11. While there is a lot to do to close down our physical spaces, the office phone numbers will continue to operate until at least December 20. That’s important – even though we will have moved out of our physical offices at that point – because we could be conducting legislative business in Washington right through that date, or even later.

Bottom line: as long as we are voting on the House floor, constituents will be able to call my office to register their opinions.

As a reminder, here are the steps we’re taking and recommending if you have an issue with a federal agency between now and the new year:

  • If you have an urgent issue that you have not yet contacted my office about, the fastest way to get help is to contact the office of Senator Gary Peters. His constituent services team can be reached at 313-226-6020. We’ve worked closely with Senator Peters’ team to ensure they can address your issue or concern. This will make sure you get help without any interruption caused by the transition to a new Congress.
  • If you have an ongoing case with us, a caseworker will reach out with information about continuation and transfer options for your specific case, and we will work with you to ensure the best possible solution for your circumstances.
  • If you need assistance but are willing to wait until the new year, you can contact Representative-elect Barrett’s office that will open for Michigan’s 7th District in the new year or reach out to my team once we’re settled in over in the Senate. In the Senate, my office will announce information on how to contact my constituent services team as soon as possible.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have questions about the transition or need assistance by calling (517) 993-0510. And stay tuned for some of the behind-the-scenes logistics that go into closing down a Congressional office.
