Softball Off to Fast Start in New Season

The Stockbridge varsity softball team has gotten off to a quick start with an 8-2 record to begin the 2026 spring season.

The Panthers opened the season with a 17-3 and 10-1 doubleheader sweep of rival Leslie March 25.

Stockbridge bats were booming with 17 hits in the contest.

Zoey Horstman had a huge game, going 5-5 with a double and triple with six rbi’s to lead the Panthers.

Jailynn Nelson collected three hits and a rbi, while Azlynn Parks added two hits and three rbi. Madison Rusnock had two hits and two rbi, Laura Humrich two hits and a rbi, and Airiana Smith two hits and two runs scored.

Sophomore Leighton Bremiller earned her first career win in the circle for the Panthers, striking out five and allowing three hits. Bremiller also added a hit and rbi at the plate in the game.

Stockbridge took the second game, scoring in each of the first four innings.

Horstman was once again perfect at the plate going 3-3, including an inside the park home run and three rbi’s.

Rusnock went 3-3 with an rbi, Nelson two hits and a rbi, Smith a hit and two rbi, and Humrich a hit and run scored.

Freshman Makayla Williamson made her first career start in the circle for Stockbridge and earned the win, striking out seven and allowing two hits. Williamson also had two hits and a rbi at the plate in the game.

Reading

Stockbridge took a pair from Reading in the Big 8 opener April 8 14-2 and 15-1.

Bremiller allowed just one hit and struck out six for the win in the circle in the opener.

Makenna Mezo hit a home run and finished with two hits, while Horstman was again perfect at the plate going 3-3 with two rbi.

Humrich was 3-3 with three runs scored, Rusnock had two hits and two rbi, Nelson two hits and three rbi, Ava Lucas two hits and one rbi, Kerrigan Smith a hit and two rbi, and Bremiller a hit and two rbi.

Mezo hit another inside the park home run and finished with two hits and two rbi.

Lucas added two hits and three rbi, while Rusnock and Nelson each had two hits and two runs scored. Alecia Smith had a hit and two rbi, Humrich a hit and rbi, and Kerrigan Smith a hit and run scored.

Emily Satkowiak tossed a no-hitter, striking out four and had a hit and two rbi at the plate.

Olivet

Stockbridge took two from Olivet 6-5 and 17-0.

The Panthers walked it off in the opener with a infield single by Horstman to drive in Lucas with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh.

Horstman finished with two hits and four rbi, while Lucas added three hits and two runs scored. Kerrigan Smith added a hit and rbi, and Parks added one hit.

Bremiller struck out nine and allowed five hits for the win.

Satkowiak allowed just one hit and walked none in the second game for the win in the circle.

Mezo led the hitting attack by going 4-4 with two rbi.

Nelson and Lucas each had two hits and two rbi, Rusnock, Airiana Smith, and Satkowiak two hits and one rbi each, Kerrigan Smith two hits and two runs scored, Humrich two hits and a run scored, Parks a hit and three rbi, and Horstman a triple.

Perry

The Panthers had a bump in the road, dropping a doubleheader to Perry 13-7 and 11-8.

Humrich led the offense with two hits and two rbi, while Rusnock had a hit and rbi. Lucas had a hit and two runs scored, and Nelson a hit and run scored in the opener.

Stockbridge could not hold a 4-2 lead in the second game as Perry rallied for the win.

Lucas and Horstman had two hits and two rbi each to lead the hitting attack.

Anya Harden added two this, Airiana Smith a hit and rbi, Mezo a hit and two runs scored, Humrich a hit and run scored, and Rusnock one hit.

Quincy

The Panthers bounced back with a doubleheader sweep of Quincy 7-5 and 14-3 to improve to 4-0 in the Big 8.

Bremiller struck out three and allowed six hits for the win for Stockbridge.

Lucas led the offense with three hits and three rbi, while Kerrigan Smith added three hits and a rbi. Nelson had two hits, and two runs scored, Horstman and Airiana Smith added two hits each, Bremiller one hit and one rbi, and Humrich a hit and run scored.

The second game saw Lucas finished with three hits and three rbi, including a home run to lead the batting attack.

Humrich collected two hits and two rbi, and Rusnock two hits and a rbi.

Mezo and Horstman each had a hit and two rbi, and Kerrigan Smith a hit and rbi.

Satkowiak struck out three and allowed five hits in the circle for the win pitching.
