Softball Rolls to Blissfield Invite Title

The Stockbridge softball team made it two straight Blissfield Invitational titles by rolling to three wins Saturday and improve to 5-3 overall on the season.

The Panthers opened the day by taking down Adrian 9-2.

Arin Szumlinski got things going by smacking a home run in the first inning for a 1-0 lead.

Bailey Bartrun set down the first nine batters by strike out before the Maples finally got a baserunner in the fourth but got out of it with no damage.

Makayla Surline doubled in a run and Szumlinski struck again in the fifth with a two-run shot to center to make it 4-0. McKenzie Noble then ripped a bases loaded triple in the sixth to make it 7-0.

Adrian would score two in the sixth to cut the lead to 7-2, but Grace Burg and Surline ripped RBI doubles in the seventh for a pair of insurance runs and the 9-2 final.

Bartrum finished with 16 strikeouts for the win.

Szumlinski finished with two home runs and three RBI, while Surline had two hits and two RBI. Burg finished with two hits and an RBI, Hannah Lockhart, Joslynn Caskey, and Madi Mazuca two hits each, Noble a hit and three RBI, and Bartrum one hit.

A seven run first inning gave the Panthers a 7-0 lead and they cruised to a 14-6 win over Blissfield in the second game of the day.

Big hits in the inning were a two-run double by Bartrum, an RBI ingle by Ashlee Grumelot, an RBI double by Alexis Hightower, and a two-run single by Noble.

A two-run double by Szumlinksi and an RBI single by Lockhart made it 11-2 and the Panthers cruised to the win.

Noble led the offense with three hits and two RBI, while Caskey added three hits. Szumlinksi, Bartrum, and Hightower had two hits and three RBI each, while Grumelot and Lockhart had a hit and RBI each. Bartrum struck out nine for the win, while Lockhart worked two innings and struck out two.

The Panthers used a pair of five run innings to blow out Melvindale 12-0 in the final game of the day.

Bartrum allowed just one hit and struck out nine for the win.

Noble again led the offense with three hits and four RBI. Surline added two hits and three RBI and Lockhart two hits and an RBI. Caskey and Hightower each had a pair of hits, Lillian Thomas a hit and RBI and Szumlinski a hit and run scored.

The Panthers travel to Whitmore Lake for a doubleheader Monday.
