From market to table: Bringing ‘Friday finds’ home

by Kristen Stromski

Every Friday brings a special time for market-goers, especially as we transition into the cozy days of fall. The Open Air Market is more than a place to shop—it is a place to gather, connect, and enjoy our community. Families can visit the playground, bikers can take advantage of the pump track, and friends can meet up for a stroll around the walking track. You can grab dinner, listen to live music, shop with local vendors, or simply enjoy a Friday evening at the park.

But what happens when you leave the market?

Your experience doesn’t have to end when you pack up your purchases and head home. As the season winds down, the market tables are filled with plenty of ingredients and goodies that can inspire a cozy fall meal, a weekend treat, or even a little seasonal decorating. You don’t have to arrive with a perfectly planned shopping list. Sometimes the best meals begin by walking through the market, seeing what catches your eye, and letting those finds inspire you.

Cozy up with your market finds

Fresh potatoes and herbs can become crispy herb-roasted potatoes, the perfect side dish for a fall dinner. Pick up a loaf of fresh bread and turn it into warm garlic and herb toast to serve alongside soup, chili, or pasta.

Looking for something to share? Create a cozy fall charcuterie board with freshly baked bread, uniquely flavored jams, expertly coated nuts, cookies, and other baked goods. Add cheese, apples, or other favorites from home, and you have an easy spread for a Friday night with friends. Even a fresh tomato bruschetta is sure to take center stage on your charcuterie boards.

And don’t forget dessert! Pick up some locally baked cookies, cinnamon rolls, or other sweet treats and pair them with a warm cup of coffee or apple cider for an easy Saturday morning treat.

Bring a little fall home

The market isn’t just for the kitchen. April Farms will be bringing pumpkins, gourds, hay stalks, and more to help you add a little fall charm to your porch, entryway, or dining table.

You could even create a simple fall centerpiece using a few seasonal finds, or combine pumpkins and gourds with flowers or greenery you already have at home.

These are just a few of the possibilities waiting for you at the Open Air Market in Stockbridge. With only a month left in the season, now is the time to enjoy those Friday evenings, support our local vendors, and discover something delicious—or something beautiful—to bring home.

Join us Fridays from 4–7 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Park, and make your own Friday market memories before the season comes to a close.
