Art with Jazz debuts to enthusiastic crowd

The historic Stockbridge Township Hall was hopping Saturday evening, Nov. 10, as painter and mixed-media artist Colleen Redfield and sculptor Mike Jones teamed to present their work with the Debbie Fogell Quartet and the Generations jazz band, featuring special guest Pat Cronley on keyboard.

Light refreshments were provided as local residents enjoyed music and art and mingled in neighborly conversations in the holiday-decorated setting. Displayed art was available for sale.

Redfield, who works with children in Stockbridge schools, estimated that about 200 people attended. “It was a good showcase for Mike Jones and my artwork,” she said, “and Deb Fogell’s band, Generations, was a good addition.” Redfield thanked “all the people who came out to support us” and expressed appreciation to Jo Mayer, Paul Crandall, Suzi Greenway, Chris Jones, Diane Wilson, and Lynn Balkus for “helping pull the event together.”

Jones, in addition to exhibiting five times in Grand Rapids’ famous ArtPrize, has had his sculptures displayed at the Dexter District Library, in Royal Oak, and the 2009 Sculpture Walk in Chelsea. See http://mjonessculpt.com.

Robert Johnson and Debbie Fogell, of Generations, have been creating and sharing their themed shows with communities throughout Michigan and surrounding states since 2003. ​Keyboardist Pat Cronley from the Flint area has earned numerous awards for his work with public television and radio, winning an Emmy in 2011 for a musical score.
