Baseball Takes Down Webberville in Season Opener
The Stockbridge varsity baseball team took a big lead and held on for a 9-5 win over Webberville in the season opener March 19.
The Panthers built an 8-0 lead with three runs in the third and four in the fifth, but held off a last inning rally to beat the Spartans.
A two-run single by Kameron Gross put the Panthers up 3-0 in the third.
Stockbridge added a run in the fourth to make it 4-0 and blew the game open in the fifth.
The Panthers scored runs with a bases loaded walk and hit batter to make it 6-0 and Collin Trost followed with a two-run single to make it 8-0.
Each team scored a run in the sixth to make it 9-1, but things got interesting in the top of the seventh.
The Spartans scored four times to cut the lead to 9-5 and loaded the bases with one out, but Trost came in and got a strike out and ground out to end the game for the Panthers win.
Jason Porzio led the offense with a pair of hits, while Trost and Gross each had a hit and two rbi.
Noah Sandecki had a hit and rbi, and Aidan Bradley had a hit and run scored.
Stockbridge took a 6-3 lead in the first inning of the second game when it was called because of darkness.
