First Annual All Wheels Extravaganza comes to Stockbridge

Swiss American automotive executive Bob Lutz took a moment to answer questions and pose for a picture with his 1971 Intermeccanica ‘Italia’ convertible coup, which he drove from Saline for the event. Lutz served as a top leader of all of the United States Big Three, having been, in succession, executive vice president of Ford Motor Company, president and then vice chairman of Chrysler Corporation, and vice chairman of General Motors.

What do 67 cars, trucks, mud trucks, motorcycles, a Jeep, a fire truck, an ambulance, a drift trike and even a drone have in common? They all participated in Stockbridge’s first annual All Wheels Extravaganzaon Aug. 24.

Chris and Jennifer Wells of Plymouth brought multiple cars to the show including their 2002 Lamborghini Murcielago, which means bat in Italian. Between its scissor doors and bright yellow color, the vehicle drew wide-eyed gazes.

“We had gorgeous weather, just a fantastic day all around!” Rebecca Dunne of The Auto Shop and host of the event shared her excitement. The Auto Shop, CT Performance and My Body Shop teamed up to bring the event to town.

C.G. Lantis points to his Pontiac G-8 where Lutz signed an autograph. Lantis set the World Record with his G-8 for the half mile at 180.42 mph.

Both co-sponsors of the event and local John and Theresa Kightlinger of My Body Shop and Shane and Tracy Carey of CT Performance had multiple vehicles registered at the event.

When asked how the event came about, Dunne said, “We’ve been thinking about doing a car show for a little while now, and we all happen to be in the Auto industry. The Auto Shop with complete auto care, CT Performance being the best in high performance anywhere, and My Body Shop with their expertise in Auto Body. There wasn’t a place that held an ALL Wheels show, at least not local.” Word travels, and Dunne is hoping next year’s event will be even bigger.

Local businesses provided food and entertainment. DJ Phatboy provided music. The Smoke Doctor offered food, and Brendon’s Lemonade provided “The Best Lemonade.”

The spectacular, positive community event felt even more festive due to prizes from a 50/50 raffle, a drawing for a TV and Kayak and various door prizes. A few the winners included Katrina Griffith, Vince Harris, Renee Covert and Dave Lloyd.

“What’s happier than great autos, food, music and friends!” Dunne said.
