May 1, 2025: A Gregory man has been taken into custody, without incident, and lodged at the Livingston County Jail for alleged child sexual abuse activity. NOTE: The following are merely allegations against the defendant; he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
On April 25, Detective Patton of the Unadilla Township Police Department met with a witness who stated she had been impersonating a 13-year-old girl on the internet. She provided hours of recorded conversation and hundreds of pages of screen shots detailing conversations she had with the suspect. The suspect had sent sexually explicit images and videos to the witness and had attempted to meet her for sex on multiple occasions.
The suspect was identified as 54-year-old Richard Green of Gregory, Michigan. As officers were investigating this matter and preparing to take Green into custody, the witness posted the evidence she had accumulated and identified the suspect on her social media site. This forewarned the suspect, who was able to destroy what is believed to be significant evidence in the case, and increased the risk to other minor children in the home and the involved officers.
Chief Russell expressed his concern over the witness making the case public.
“It is common that in cases of this nature there are other victims who have not come forward. While we do not have any indication that this defendant committed other acts, if there was any evidence of that, it would have been possibly located on the defendant’s electronic devices and likely destroyed as a result of him being given advance notice from the social media post.”
During an interview, Green admitted to impersonating his wife on texts to make the girl feel safe and attempting to encourage the witness to befriend his own daughter, so the witness had an excuse to come to his residence.
Green was arraigned on May 1 and has been charged with 4 felony counts of child sexually abusive activity, 4 felony counts of using a computer to commit a crime and 1 felony count of evidence tampering. His bond was set at $300,000.
