Softball Sweeps Pair From Waverly

Emily Breslin had herself a day as she helped lead the Stockbridge softball team to a doubleheader sweep of Lansing Waverly Monday, April 15.

Breslin was the winning pitcher in both games, striking out 21 and allowing just six hits on the night. She was had a night at the plate as well, going 5 for 8 with seven RBI’s, including a grand slam and two-run homer in the doubleheader to help the Panthers claim 11-1 and 9-3 wins.

The opener saw Waverly tie the game at one in the fourth inning, but Stockbridge retook the lead with three runs in the fifth.

They scored seven in the sixth to end the game, with Breslin’s grand slam the big blow of the inning.

Hannah Gutting had a big game with three hits and two RBI, while Taylor Carey and Katelyn Knieper had two hits each.

The Panthers scored five in the first inning of the nightcap to take control early and cruise to the win.

Brenin finished with two hits and two RBI in the game. Knieper, Gutting, Lena Jackson, Hannah Lockhart, and Madi Mazuca all had a hit and RBI for Stockbridge.

The Panthers improved to 5-2 overall on the season. They return to action Thursday when they travel to Webberville for a doubleheader.
