The Stockbridge Township Board meeting, Jan. 21, at the Township Hall began with students from Smith Elementary leading the Pledge of Allegiance. (See photo.)

The board unanimously approved the Open Air Market and Stockbridge Chamber of Commerce (Day in the Village and Festival of Lights) to use the Stockbridge Township Square for their events as these events are a great addition to the community.

The board, in proceeding with property renovations, approved a bid for a metal roof with a 50-year warranty to be installed on the old fire station at a cost of $9,900. It approved cleaning of the office space of the old fire barn at a cost of $780. It also approved to go forward with an environmental study of the building and grounds of the old fire station so as to ensure all is safe there.

The Township Board approved a motion to un-table discussion of the medical marijuana issue that was tabled until LARA completed their rules and regulations. LARA now has permanent laws in place regarding medical marijuana operations, but it has not yet developed laws pertaining to recreational marijuana. The Board approved a motion that each member become more educated on the medical marijuana issue, and it is asking the Township Planning Commission to develop an ordinance concerning the matter. The board has voted to opt out of recreational marihuana operation until the dust settles with respect to LARA’s development of pertinent rules and regulations.

Subsequent to the meeting, according to the Township board’s website, there will be a “Planning Commission Special Meeting, Feb. 6 at 7 p.m. in the Stockbridge Township Hall. Agenda includes: Marijuana and review ordinance 4.11.1 Permitted Principal Uses M. Commercial Garages for trucks of one (1) ton or less rated capacity.”

The next Stockbridge Township Board meeting is scheduled for Feb. 18 at 7:30 p.m.

The recycling program that the Stockbridge Township started is going very well with a dumpster now located behind the new SAESA location.
