    St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea to offer series of free mental health classes this spring

    CHELSEA, Mich. (April 2, 2019) – This spring, St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea will host a “Minding Your Health Series,” which includes three educational programs aimed at improving mental health in the community. These events are free and open to the public. All classes will be held inside the Chelsea Wellness Center, located at 14800 E. Old US Hwy. 12 in Chelsea. Please register by calling the Chelsea Wellness Center at 734-214-0220. The dates, times and class topics are:

    Date: April 8

    Time: 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

    Topic: Why Diets Fail

    Description: Learn to better understand the roles food and exercise play in our lives, and what might really be in the way of lasting change.

    Date: May 6

    Time: 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

    Topic: Finding Help: When to get it and where to go

    Description: Learn when to seek mental health treatment and where to find the support needed.

    Date: May 29
    Time: 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.

    Topic: Aging at Home: Is it safe?

    Description: Learn about the medical conditions and medications to watch for as you age, risk factors of living alone, how to complete a home safety assessment and when to consider a driving evaluation. Individuals will also learn about geriatric psychiatric evaluations and neuropsychological evaluations

    This is our 9th season, and we’ll be on the Town Square from 4 pm to 7 pm. Your favorite vendors will be there with cheese, honey, maple syrup, chocolates and baked goods, bread, pies, British specialties by Lynn, soaps and candles, essential oils, sprays and pet supplies. Come meet Olga the herbalist and Ivanka the crochet queen.

    Lake Divide Farm will be here this week or next depending on crops. Zumo Eco Farm pesto and chips will return in June.

    Our market is community based. Last week, the Austin sisters entertained in between sets by Larry Guenther, making this a special moment for all. Learn about the Open Air Market by attending. We believe in our vendors and their products so we all achieve marketing goals.

    The American Legion Mackinder-Glenn Post #510 is holding its 10th annual Blessing of the Plow on Saturday, May 11. A BBQ dinner will be served beginning at 5:00 P.M. and ending at 7:00 P.M., and a live band will perform from 7:30 P.M. to 11:30 P.M.
